Musilia Carbon Fiber Cello Cases
The Musilia German engineered, lightweight cello cases are the most competitive, highest
quality cello case to date. They are well made, light and
sturdy and offer the best value for your money. If you are in
the market for one these super light (5-7 lb.) cases and looking at
the Accord Case, a high end Bam or Brack cases, the Musilia cases
are made just as well if not better. Now that the other brands
of ultra-light cases have been around a while, the technology today
has gotten better and better. Carbon fiber is the key
ingredient here and these are made with specially pressure vacuumed
autoclaves and heated to reduce any extra (heavy) resin in the
process....making the case strong and lightweight. Because of
the costly high tech materials and that they are labor intensive,
they do cost more.
Why get such a light (and more expensive) cello
case?
The most important advantage of using the new Musilia lightweight case is that they are so incredibly easier
to carry and therefore healthier on the skeletal frame of a
musician's body. For older players, (college age and up)
playing and using the muscles as much as they do just playing the
cello are then overtaxing them by having to put more duress carrying
the cello case around before and after rehearsals. (Anyone
having to carry out a heavy cello case after that long ballet or
concert will know exactly what we are saying here...)What's the
difference between the 3 cases, S1, S2, and S3?
All 3 cases have the same body shape. They all come out of the
same exact molds, but the big difference is obviously weight.
All equally protective...the lighter the case, the more money it
costs to make. The S1 combines newer technology of special
fiberglass which is reinforced in key areas for strength and
rigidity. These are heavier than the S2 and the S3. The
S2 is made of 100% carbon fiber and is Musilia's strongest case (can
support something like 300 lbs of down pressure) on the top of the
case. They weigh around 7-7.4 lbs.
The S3 which is the lightest at around 5.5 lbs, is probably the
strongest cello case in its class. (By class, we mean when
the S3 is compared to other cello cases also weighing 5.5 lbs, Musilia will be the strongest, most rigid. It is also the most
expensive Musilia case because of the materials used, the extra
labor and the attention required in making them. When making
light and strong cases, no corner can be cut, no time saving, no
quick molding. The prep time for these cases is twice as long
as the S2. It really boils down to what you need, what and
want to pay. Altogether, the cases are top quality and Musilia
has shown a very professional and reliable partner in backing and
standing behind their products.
