Matteo Gofriller model bass, $8,500
This Matteo Gofriller model has a wonderful majestic shape and
sound. The upper bouts (shoulders) on this one are just a
tad 'fuller' across. Still having some nice sloping
shoulders, just enough to offer some ease for the higher
registers, but still has that 'big' sound.
We offer 4 new models:
We labelled this one Gofriller, but there is plenty of doubt on
the exact model providence of who originally made this one.
This exact model was copied and drawn several years ago by Canadian
bass maker, Peter Chandler whom lived in Toronto with a close
association with the bass section there. At the time, a player there
owned a nice bass that they often attributed to Gofriller. While
Gofriller made many cellos (he died in 1742) there is only one well
documented bass. Whomever made this model, it works
and is definitely Italian.
