Jeff Bradetich's 'Double Bass,
The Ultimate Challenge Book
Well, here is another great book that has come out in recent months.
Jeff Bradetich is not only a great
bass player, but also a very educated and disciplined bass teacher.
I have seen Jeff 'in action' teaching and it's nice that he has
taken the long, hard road of writing this very detailed bass method
book, 'The Ultimate Challenge'. I think the
Ultimate Challenge must have been for him to do this book!!!
There is surely no other book like this! It has hundreds of
well thought of photos and diagrams. This is not your everyday
run of the mill, 'Simandl'-like book. One can quickly see with
all the photos how important posture and technical aspects play such
a 'large' role for bass players.
You can order this here:
Not only is this book a 'must have' for any student (young or old),
every teacher should have this book as well. (Music libraries???)
It is a very contemporary, up to date and thorough book.
Here's a brief list of some of the major points that he
covers in the book:
- Physical characteristics
- Standing vs. Sitting
- The Right Hand
- The Left Hand
- Fingering Concepts
- Shifting
- Intonation
- Bow Strokes
- Harmonic
- Vibrato
- Pizzicato
- Practicing
- Technical Exercises
Again, I would highly recommend this book.
Jeff has his own unique way of successful thinking and presenting
material. It is a very thorough and detailed book.
